My mom was a certified nursing assistant, Tatge said.
For vacations, a day trip to the beach was a big deal.
We did get to go to Disneyland once a year.
I had no concept of going somewhere new overnight for a vacation.
While Tatges family might not have overly splurged on luxury, he never considered himself poor growing up.
I wouldnt say we were poor but definitely blue collar, he said.
Blue-collar or not, Tatge is now a self-made millionaire.
Being able to see beyond that has made a big difference.
This was the case for Tatge as well.
With that hard work and dedication, he began to work his way up in the industry.
I was good at working with my hands, and had a passion for it, he said.
That combined with astrong work ethicgot me noticed.
But he didnt stop there.
Today, DC Materials brings in roughly $23 million in revenue a far cry from Tatges humble upbringing.
Working hard, persevering, and being adaptable were also only all part of the bigger picture.
Through these, he built his business into something truly remarkable.
I wanted to learn as much as I could, he said.
And thats when everything changed…
I started attendingconferences and networkingwith guys in construction who wore suits instead of tool belts.
What were they doing?
How were they doing it?
I sought out mentors, joined organizations, built strong business relationships and asked far too many questions.
But while some people will keep grinding away at something, Tatge eventually realized he could do more.
In particular, he realized he could expand his business into something even bigger and more profitable.
It was an epic ah-ha moment!
So, what did he do?
I essentially became the middleman and it was life-changing, to say the least!
